An RV exploded at the Blue Mountain Service Plaza on the Pennsylvania Turnpike early Tuesday, around 4:30 a.m., causing damage to several commercial vehicles.
The incident: A semi truck's dash cam recorded the blast, which was reportedly caused by a propane leak. The explosion occurred when a person inside the RV lit a cigarette, said Pennsylvania State Police.
- The RV was completely destroyed, and two people inside were injured and taken to the hospital.
- A nearby trucker, who was asleep in his vehicle, was showered with glass from the blast but was unharmed.
Trucker's perspective: "Being a truck driver, you see all kinds of things, but this is definitely, definitely a first," he shared, shocked yet relieved to be safe. He also mentioned he won't park next to RVs anymore after this incident.
What we know: The trucker plans to continue resting at the Blue Mountain Plaza, just further from RVs, as the community comes together after this unexpected event. The Pennsylvania State Police confirmed the propane leak as the cause of the explosion, reported WGAL.
Fortunately, no truck drivers were injured, and only vehicles were damaged. The area is now under investigation to ensure other travelers' safety.
