Runaway truck safely stops on Wolf Creek Pass's snowy ramp

On March 20, 2025, a semi truck was captured on video taking a runaway ramp on Wolf Creek Pass, Colorado, after its brakes began smoking.

Details: The hair-raising scene occurred on the west side of US 160, known for its sharp curves and steep 7% downhill grade.

  • The runaway truck was closely followed by another truck with hazard lights on, seemingly trying to alert other drivers.
  • Remarkably, the truck navigated the snowy ramp and came to a complete stop without incident.

Background: From 2015 to 2019, Wolf Creek Pass was the site of 47 crashes involving semi-trucks, three of which resulted in fatalities, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
