Road rage incident between truckers on I-80 involves gunfire

A tense situation unfolded on February 2, 2025, in Newton, Iowa, when a road rage incident between two truck drivers on I-80 led to gunfire.

What happened: Around 7 p.m., a blue Peterbilt semi driver allegedly fired several shots at another semi truck while it was trying to pass near mile marker 164.

  • The victim, despite being shot at, pulled off safely at a nearby Love's Travel Center and called the police.
  • The suspect continued down I-80 but was later apprehended at an off-ramp near the 179-mile marker.

The driver, identified as Patrick Lee Miller, 56, was arrested by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities found a handgun and shell casings in his truck.

The charges: Miller faces multiple charges, including attempted murder, intimidation with a dangerous weapon, and reckless use of a firearm.

  • The victim was unharmed in the incident, and police confirmed this was an isolated road rage case.

These events highlight the unpredictable situations truckers might encounter on the road, but thankfully, no injuries were reported.
