Rig crashes through barriers and gets stuck in I-80 work zone

A big rig ended up stuck in a construction zone on I-80 eastbound just past Kingvale, California, after a crash late the night of June 24, 2025. The California Highway Patrol’s Truckee division said the driver drove through “Road Closed” signs and lost control.

What happened: The rig smashed through some plastic barriers and ended up in an area that was supposed to get fresh concrete poured the next day. Crews were left cleaning up debris and water early the following morning.

  • CHP said the truck was moving too fast for the conditions inside the closed area.
  • Orange chunks of plastic could be seen scattered across the highway and construction zone the next day.

The construction site was still being cleaned up late into the morning of June 25. CHP did not report any injuries in the incident.
