Quick-thinking trooper dodges rogue tire on highway patrol

An Arizona trooper faced a close call with a rogue tire while standing beside his patrol vehicle. The incident happened last month, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) shared the body cam footage on April 8.

What went down: The trooper was investigating a crash when a loose tire from a passing truck shot towards him. He quickly stepped aside, just in time before it slammed into his car's open passenger door.

  • No drivers or vehicles were hit, and luckily, no injuries were reported from the runaway tire.

What they're saying: AZDPS advised truckers to keep an eye on tire conditions. Keeping them properly inflated and checking tread depth can help avoid blowouts, especially as temperatures rise, they noted.

Though the tire caused damage to the patrol car's door, the trooper was unharmed, highlighting the alertness needed on the job.
