Quick response saves trucker in Louisiana near-miss accident

A semi truck hauling pipes had a close call in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.

The incident: Firefighters from St. Tammany Fire Protection District No. 11 rushed to I-59 southbound at mile marker 5 following reports of a truck accident.

  • The truck driver said he had to slam on the brakes to avoid another vehicle.
  • This sudden stop caused three heavy pipes to crash through the truck's cab into the engine.

Engine and safety: Thankfully, the pipes missed the driver's legs by inches, preventing serious injury.

Current status: The area was cleared, and by 1:55 p.m., the right lane of I-59 was reopened for traffic.

The fast response by the fire district ensured the situation was handled quickly, and no injuries were reported.
