Illinois State Police are looking into a series of dangerous incidents on I-57 near Effingham and Shelby counties. Over the past week, several vehicles were damaged by objects thrown from highway overpasses.
The warning: On August 4, troopers put out an alert after taking multiple reports about damage along the stretch between Effingham and Sigel, close to mile markers 165 to 170.
- Police say these actions are being investigated as Vehicular Endangerment, which is considered a Class 2 Felony in the state.
- Troopers stressed that tossing anything from an overpass is a serious threat to everyone on the highway.
What police need: Authorities are asking anyone who sees anything suspicious, or who has dash cam video from the area during nighttime hours in recent days, to contact the ISP at (217) 342-7871.
As of now, officers are still looking for those responsible and hope the public can help find leads.
