A semitrailer overturned early Wednesday morning, July 16, on Interstate 95 near Oak Hill, Florida, causing a major traffic shutdown in both directions.
What happened: Around 4:20 a.m., the big rig was heading south when it drifted into the center lane and sideswiped a GMC hauling a trailer with a car. Both vehicles went off the highway, and the semitrailer flipped, spilling loads of plastic pipe across the interstate.
- Soon after, another car crashed into the scattered pipes.
- The truck driver was taken to the hospital with injuries described as not life-threatening.
- No one else was hurt in this crash.
Road shutdown: Both southbound and northbound I-95 were closed due to the wreckage and a fuel leak from the truck. Hours later, a fire broke out at the crash site when crews started road repairs, keeping all southbound lanes closed until just after 11:30 a.m., according to ClickOrlando.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation. The Florida Highway Patrol has not released more details about the driver’s current condition.
