Three new and upgraded rest areas are now open along I-70 and I-77 in Belmont and Washington counties, Ohio. The ribbon cuttings took place August 5th, with state officials and local leaders attending.
What truckers should know: These rest stops have added truck parking, cleaner restrooms, and amenities like dog trails, rocking chairs, and Storybook Trails for families. They’re designed to be accessible and easy to use for everyone, including those with disabilities.
- The new Ohio Welcome Center is found on I-70 westbound near St. Clairsville.
- A new rest area is open on I-70 eastbound in Belmont County as well.
- The upgraded Welcome Center is on I-77 northbound near Marietta and includes displays on local history.
Each rest area highlights area attractions and has spots for drivers to stretch their legs. There is also expanded parking, with wider, safer spaces aimed at truckers and long-haul drivers.
“Modernizing our highway rest areas is about more than just convenience, it’s about safety, economic growth, and showcasing the best of our state,” said ODOT Director Pam Boratyn, according to an official release.
By the end of 2026, Ohio is planning to roll out 36 new rest areas and renovate more than 40 others statewide.
