Truck drivers can look forward to new truck stops along the I-10 corridor in Southeast Texas. Authorities hope this will spark economic growth in the region.
The big picture: Four new rest stops are planned between Beaumont and Orange, Texas. These stops aim to provide fuel, parking, and other amenities for truckers.
- One truck stop is projected to open by the end of October 2024.
- "Southeast Texas is the hub," said Robbie Hood, Vidor's city manager. "We have the oil industry, manufacturing, and trucking."
By the numbers: Each truck stop will contribute sales tax revenue to the local economy from fuel and merchandise sales.
Lamar State College-Orange's CDL Program Director, Carl Cormier, noted the growing demand for truck parking and fuel access, according to 12 News Now.
What's next: The opening dates for the remaining three truck stops have yet to be announced.
