Truckers crossing from New York to Canada will soon face higher tolls on key bridges. The Niagara Falls Bridge Commission (NFBC) announced a rate increase effective May 1, 2025.
What's happening: Tolls will rise on the Rainbow, Whirlpool-Rapids, and Lewiston-Queenston bridges. The cost for a standard 5-axle truck will go from $32 to $34 USD.
- This increase marks the first since 2022, aiming to cover surging maintenance costs and ensure infrastructure reliability.
- Passenger vehicle tolls will also see a hike from $5 to $6 USD.
The reason: NFBC attributes the increase to higher goods and materials costs, combined with ongoing bridge maintenance needs. Ken Bieger, CEO of NFBC, emphasized the importance of the toll adjustment to support long-term safety and bridge maintenance efforts.
- The toll changes are part of NFBC's plan to fund essential capital projects.
Looking forward: The NFBC commits to managing border operations effectively, ensuring the longevity and safety of these critical transit points for both truckers and daily travelers.
