Nevada truckers face $500 surcharge due to parking crisis

Truckers in Nevada may soon apply a $500 delivery surcharge in Clark County due to limited parking options.

What's happening: Several parking lots in the Las Vegas Valley, including key locations on Las Vegas and Nellis Boulevards, have been shut down over zoning issues, sparking concerns within the trucking community.

  • The closed lots were not legally zoned for truck parking, according to County Commissioner Tick Segerblom. Violations included lack of business licenses and improper use of residential areas.

The problem: The Nevada Hispanic Truckers’ Association argues that the closures are creating a severe parking shortage for drivers.

  • "Drivers are getting fined $500 to $800 for parking in unauthorized areas," said spokesperson Dunia Antunez, reported FOX5 Vegas.

What's next: The proposed $500 surcharge is set to begin on July 1 unless new parking solutions are developed. Segerblom has promised to work on creating legally approved parking areas, though this could take months.

For now, truckers are left navigating the shortage with patience and resilience, awaiting the resolution of this "growing parking crisis" in Clark County.
