A Maryland truck driver is facing legal consequences for illegally dumping diesel fuel, a move that violated local environmental laws.
Details: Larry A. Gross, age 46, admitted to dumping 5,342 gallons of diesel in multiple locations in Anne Arundel County in October 2023. The act was motivated by a pay increase based on delivery volumes.
- On November 6, 2024, Gross pled guilty to two counts of unlawful discharge of oil.
- As a result, he was sentenced to 60 days in prison and received a $10,000 fine, according to a Maryland Attorney General press release.
How it happened: On October 4, at around 2 a.m., Gross began discharging diesel on the shoulder of Route 10 in Brooklyn Park. He continued dumping at several other spots, all captured by surveillance.
Brown added that violations like this pose a risk to the environment, as toxins could seep into waterways and soil. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries or damage to vehicles from the dumped diesel.
