Major crash with semi traps car on Loop 202 in Tempe

A serious crash involving a semi truck and three passenger vehicles caused a major traffic jam on Loop 202 in Tempe, Arizona, Wednesday morning. The accident led to a car being crushed under a semi, significantly impacting rush hour traffic.

The scene: The collision occurred around 8 a.m. on the eastbound lanes near McClintock Drive. Rescue teams swiftly arrived to attend to the injured.

  • Four people were hospitalized, with two suffering life-threatening injuries.
  • Emergency crews had to cut off the roof of the car trapped beneath the semi to free the occupants.

Traffic impact: The crash caused significant delays as only the HOV lane remained open during the clean-up and investigation. Traffic was backed up until all lanes reopened after 12:30 p.m., according to AZ Family.

Ongoing investigation: Authorities are still piecing together what led to the crash. They have not yet determined the exact cause of the accident.

Thankfully, despite the chaos, responders ensured all individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment. The lanes reopening marked the end of a chaotic morning on Loop 202.
