Lumber truck crash knocks out power for thousands in city

A truck crash late Wednesday, June 11, took out a major power pole in Texarkana, Texas, and knocked out electricity for about a third of the city, according to police.

What happened: Police said the big rig left the road at New Boston Road and Taylor Street just before midnight. The truck, loaded with lumber, hit a main electrical pole. The impact left lumber scattered across the roadway. No one was hurt in the crash.

  • Police arrested the 39-year-old driver, Fredrick Beal, on charges of DWI (with an open container) and unlawfully carrying a weapon.
  • Beal was taken to Bi-State Jail following the incident.
  • Officers asked travelers to avoid the area while crews cleared the scene.

Power crews were working to restore electricity in the affected neighborhoods on Thursday.
