Inspection blitz sidelines dozens of trucks in one-day crackdown

On October 16, 2025, police in Ayr, Ontario, ran a major inspection blitz on commercial vehicles. Officers wanted to make sure trucks and other big rigs were following the rules and keeping the roads safe.

The breakdown: Here's what came out of the blitz, according to Ontario Provincial Police:

  • 140 vehicles inspected in one day.
  • 41 trucks taken off the road for not meeting safety or compliance standards.
  • 85 total charges handed out during the operation.
  • 118 trucks checked for fuel tax issues—no problems found.
  • 9 IFTA (fuel tax agreement) checks and 3 license plates removed.
  • One driver was given a three-day suspension after a roadside test.

Between the lines: Big inspection days like this mean a lot of pressure for professional drivers, who already have to balance tight deadlines with paperwork and maintenance.

All inspections wrapped up in a single day, with most vehicles checked passing without problems.
