FMCSA revokes 15,000 medical certificates from Houston doctors

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) revoked more than 15,000 medical certificates issued by two Houston doctors, impacting thousands of truck drivers.

The issue: FMCSA found that Dr. Jenny Le and Dr. Dustin Mai hadn't followed the necessary medical standards for truck drivers. As a result, all certificates given by them between March 2023 and March 2025 are now void.

  • 15,225 commercial drivers must get new medical certificates by May 10, 2025.
  • Drivers without a new certificate risk having their CDL downgraded by their state licensing agency.

What's driving the decision: An investigation involving the DOT, Justice Department, and Department of Homeland Security was triggered due to the high volume of exams conducted by the two doctors.

  • FMCSA determined the doctors did not correctly verify if truckers were fit to drive.

What's next: The FMCSA plans to remove these doctors from the National Registry of Medical Examiners.

In their words: FMCSA Chief Counsel Jesse Elison stated, "Removing non-compliant medical examiners is crucial to maintaining the integrity of the certification process," as reported FMCSA.

Drivers who are affected should book a new exam soon to avoid any disruption. Every effort is being made to ensure that qualified personnel handle these essential certifications.
