FMCSA pulls approval for two ELDs, drivers must switch

The FMCSA has kicked two ELDs—WALKER ELD and SR ELD—off its list of approved logging devices as of July 31, 2025. The reason? They didn’t meet the government’s minimum rules.

What you need to know: If you’re running one of these ELDs, you’ll need to switch things up.

  • Stop using the revoked ELDs right away. Go back to paper logs or use logging software to track your hours.
  • You’ve got 60 days (until September 29, 2025) to swap in a compliant ELD from the FMCSA’s official list.
  • During this short time, law enforcement is being told not to write you up for missing an ELD record, as long as you can show your logs on paper or another backup.

Important date: Starting September 29, if you’re still using these revoked units, you could get cited and possibly put out-of-service on the spot.

If the ELD makers fix their problems, the FMCSA says they might let these devices back on the approved list. But for now, drivers are encouraged to make the change quickly to avoid headaches later, according to the FMCSA.
