FMCSA issues emergency hours waiver for Texas flood relief truckers

The FMCSA has issued a special exemption for truck drivers moving supplies and equipment for Texas flood relief. This emergency waiver began on July 7, 2025.

What's new: Drivers aiding flood recovery across Texas do not have to follow certain federal rules, like hours-of-service limits, vehicle inspections, and parking regulations, but only if they're directly helping with the flood response.

  • The order covers all truckers providing direct assistance to Texas, no matter where the load starts from.
  • Normal hauls and long-term rebuilding do not qualify—this is just for initial emergency relief.

Timeline: The exemption lasts until August 4, 2025, according to an FMCSA emergency order.
