The Walton County Jail in Florida just saw its first female inmate finish the jail’s CDL training program, earning a Class A license with no restrictions.
Why it matters: Getting a CDL in Florida is tough. You have to pass written tests, a road test, and show you can handle big rigs safely. Not many folks do it while in jail, and this is a big milestone for both the inmate and the program.
- Ajiah Gee, 25, worked alongside her instructor to finish the whole course and passed all the requirements for her CDL.
- She picked up endorsements for Double/Triple Trailers and Tankers on top of her regular Class A license.
The program: The jail’s CDL course is paid for with inmate welfare funds, not taxpayer dollars. The goal is to give folks a fresh start and real job skills before they get out.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office put it simply: “Second chances matter. Every certificate, every license, and every step forward is a chance to choose a new path.”
