Flatbed semi crashes through Pennsylvania neighborhood, damages homes and poles

Tuesday morning, July 15, a flatbed semi truck drove through a Prospect Park neighborhood in Pennsylvania, leaving a trail of damage behind.

What happened: Residents say the truck came into the residential area just after 9 a.m. It ran over street signs, tore up lawns, and knocked down power lines. The truck kept going, even taking out a utility pole five blocks away near the corner of 9th and Pennsylvania avenues.

  • A local homeowner’s porch camera caught the whole thing on video, which helped police track down the truck’s owner in Illinois.
  • People in the area have seen other large trucks get stuck before. The local streets only have room for parking on one side, making it hard for big rigs to turn around.
  • Some think increased truck traffic is due to drivers trying to avoid low-clearance routes like the tough Route 420 bridge.

Police response: Officers are calling the driver “Truckzilla” for the amount of damage left behind. Police say they plan to pursue insurance money for the damage and are still looking for the driver, according to FOX 29 Philadelphia.

As of Tuesday night, some residents are still left without cable and internet because of downed utility lines from the incident.
