Fiery crash on West Virginia Turnpike involves multiple vehicles

A semi truck crash on the West Virginia Turnpike led to major disruptions and a fire early Thursday morning, April 17.

The incident: Around midnight, a truck overturned near the 66-mile marker in Fayette County, spilling a load of plastic pipes. This triggered a chain reaction involving six vehicles.

  • Two southbound semi trucks hit the pipes, leading to a fire that spread to nearby brush.
  • Three additional vehicles became entangled in the wreck.

What we're seeing: The southbound lanes were closed, causing significant traffic issues. By 4 p.m., the lanes were reopened, although some congestion lingered, reported WCHS News.
