Father injured after jumping from overpass to avoid semi collision

A dramatic incident unfolded early Monday when a man jumped off an overpass to avoid an oncoming semi truck on Interstate 10 in Gadsden County, Florida.

The accident: It happened around 6:40 a.m. in rainy conditions near mile marker 185 on Little River Bridge Overpass.

  • A Toyota sedan lost control, causing a woman and her four daughters to crash into it.
  • The woman's husband stopped his work truck and got out to help them.
  • An approaching semi couldn't stop in time and barreled into the crash site.

The father, seeing the semi coming, leaped over the bridge rail and fell over 40 feet to the ground, reported Tallahassee Democrat.

The rescue: Emergency crews managed a large-scale rescue to reach the injured man. The father was lifted from the embankment using specialized rescue gear and taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Fortunately, the mother and daughters only suffered minor injuries, and all other individuals at the scene were treated for the same.
