A sneaky scheme at a Tennessee meatpacking plant led to the theft of a whopping 80,000 pounds of beef, valued at $350,000. It happened at Southeastern Provisions in Bean Station, when a fake trucking company managed to haul away the goods.
The moves: On March 25, workers loaded the beef onto two trucks. One truck was bound for Michigan, the other for Kentucky. Both loads never made it to their destinations.
- The beef was subcontracted to "List Trucking Sales," a company that turned out to be bogus.
- Efforts to contact List Trucking Sales went nowhere, as they stopped responding to emails and calls.
The big question: How did Southeastern Provisions not verify the identity of List Trucking Sales or its drivers before loading the beef? This oversight allowed the theft to happen smoothly, reported WBIR.
The case is currently under investigation, but no arrests have been made yet. Authorities are trying to track down the culprits behind the fake trucking company.
