Failed u-turn leaves rig stranded and drivers ticketed over logs

Two team drivers hauling mail ran into trouble on June 19 outside of Fort Nelson, British Columbia, when a u-turn went wrong and left their rig blocking the road.

What happened: Their tractor-trailer snapped a rear axle and blew out the axle bags during the attempted maneuver, bringing traffic to a halt and forcing police to respond.

  • When officers showed up, they found more issues after checking both drivers' logbooks.
  • Each driver was given a ticket for having false or incorrect logs.
  • The semi had to be hauled away by a heavy wrecker, and the tow truck driver was even ticketed for using an electronic device behind the wheel.

BC Highway Patrol Corporal Michael McLaughlin said, “Most commercial drivers understand that there is a higher expectation of safety and professionalism for people who drive big, heavy rigs,” according to CJDC-TV.

The truck was cleared from the road after the tow, with tickets issued to all drivers involved in the incident.
