Dump truck rollover claims driver’s life on state route 49

A fatal crash happened on Friday, October 3rd, in Oneida County, New York. A dump bed semi truck hauling stone rolled over at the State Route 49 exit ramp to Martin Street in Rome.

The details: The truck driver, Michael Lucas, age 39 from Turin, lost control while turning and the rig went off the road. The trailer landed upright in the air, and the stone spilled onto the highway.

  • The truck was owned by Real Deal Landscaping out of Cold Brook, NY.
  • Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash happened on his birthday.
  • Deputies said speed was a factor in what caused the loss of control, according to CNY Central.
  • State Route 49 was shut down for several hours during cleanup.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
