Diesel spill at Circle K prompts quick cleanup response

An environmental service was dispatched on February 17, 2025, after a truck driver overfilled his tank, spilling a considerable amount of diesel at a Circle K in Florence, South Carolina.

What happened: The refueling mishap occurred at the station located on W. Palmetto St., close to Interstate 95. Diesel overflowed and leaked into a nearby storm drain.

  • Crews from West Florence Fire-Rescue were on the scene alongside the South Carolina Department of Environmental Control to manage the spill.
  • They absorbed much of the diesel and safeguarded additional drainage systems from contamination.

While the exact amount of diesel spilled hasn't been disclosed, the response from environmental services was immediate and thorough.
