Late Monday night, a deadly crash involving three semi trucks shut down I-65 southbound near Exit 220 in Fair Oaks, Indiana.
What happened: Around 11 p.m. on August 4, Indiana State Police say the semis collided, resulting in at least one death. One of the trailers was carrying peat moss, which kept catching fire as emergency crews worked the scene.
- Responders faced extra challenges since the peat moss kept reigniting.
- Officials say major road repairs are needed before I-65 southbound can reopen.
Current status: As of Tuesday morning, traffic is being sent off the interstate at State Road 14 (Exit 220). Drivers are being told to use alternate routes like U.S. 41, U.S. 231, or S.R. 55, and the closure is expected to last well into the late afternoon or longer, according to CDLLife.
The crash is still under investigation, and police have not yet released the name of the person who died.
