Dashcam shows trucker asleep as rig narrowly misses disaster

Dashcam footage out of Zimbabwe shows a truck driver asleep behind the wheel for nearly two minutes on a busy highway.

The video: The driver’s truck drifted across lanes and narrowly missed two oncoming semis and a biker before finally leaving the road and overturning.

  • The incident reportedly occurred near Bulawayo, though the exact location was not confirmed.
  • The dashcam audio included warning sounds from a drowsiness alert, but the driver stayed asleep, only briefly waking before the wreck.
  • No other vehicles were hit, even with all the close calls as the truck drifted down the road.

Online reaction: Many viewers called out how dangerous fatigue can be, especially during long hauls, and pointed out the value of driver alert tech and dashcams for catching warning signs and evidence on the road, according to SA Trucker.

The driver was not wearing shoes at the time of the accident. Thankfully, there were no reports of injuries to anyone else in the incident.
