Dash cam captures attempts to flee from big rig in Laredo

Dash cam video from February 12 shows a dramatic scene on South Zapata Highway and Riverhill Loop in Laredo, Texas, where ten people dashed out of a halted big rig.

The details: The Texas Department of Public Safety (TXDPS) stopped a 2011 International truck for a traffic violation. Minutes later, individuals exited the truck and fled into nearby brush.

  • With the help of a canine unit, authorities captured and arrested seven individuals believed to be in the U.S. illegally.
  • The truck driver, identified as Junior Adalid Montoya-Alvarez, was also apprehended. He's a lawful permanent resident but was charged with smuggling people.

What's next: Montoya-Alvarez could face serious charges, as investigations by law enforcement agencies continue.
