COBB Tuning Products will pay over $2.9 million for selling illegal emissions defeat devices.
Details: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Justice Department announced a settlement with the Texas-based company on September 16.
- COBB must stop selling and destroy existing defeat devices.
- The company is also required to update its marketing materials and notify previous customers that the products violate the Clean Air Act.
Harmful impact: These devices bypass EPA-approved emission controls, causing increased pollution. More than 90,000 devices have been sold since January 2015, according to an EPA press release.
COBB will also conduct compliance training for employees and contractors.
