In a shocking twist, toxicology reports have cleared truck driver Solomun Weldekeal-Araya of drug charges after a major crash on I-35 in Austin last month, that tragically left five people dead.
The driving details: On March 13th, Weldekeal-Araya was operating a semi loaded for Amazon when he crashed into stopped traffic in a construction zone near Parmer Lane.
- Initially, field sobriety tests suggested Weldekeal-Araya was under the influence of central nervous system depressants. These results led to severe charges, including five counts of intoxication manslaughter.
- Blood tests have since shown no traces of drugs or alcohol, reported Austin American-Statesman.
What's happening now: His attorney, Bristol Myers, is pushing for the immediate release of Weldekeal-Araya, citing the toxicology findings.
The crash, which took place around 11:30 p.m., resulted in the tragic loss of a family of four and an elderly woman, while injuring twelve others.
Meanwhile: The truck had no mechanical failures, according to a Texas DPS inspection.
The bottom line: Weldekeal-Araya remains in jail on a $1.2 million bond as authorities re-examine the case's evidence.
