CHP tickets trucker for alleged 95 mph run on I-5

On July 5, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) caught a semi truck going 95 mph on I-5, just south of the Oregon border. That’s 40 mph over the legal limit for trucks in California.

The law: In California, trucks with three or more axles can’t go over 55 mph on highways, even if posted limits for cars are higher. This is spelled out in state law, according to California Vehicle Code 22406.

  • CHP shared a photo of the citation issued to the driver.
  • The stop happened in the Yreka Division, which is close to the Oregon border.

CHP said driving a rig that fast is extremely dangerous, especially on mountain highways. The trucker was cited and will now have to deal with the consequences in court.
