CHP operation in Bakersfield sees 261 driver citations

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) carried out a special enforcement operation in Bakersfield on December 27. Officers were active on State Route 99 and State Route 58.

What happened: During the operation, CHP handed out a total of 261 citations. Officers inspected dozens of commercial vehicles.

  • 148 citations were for speeding.
  • 54 were given for commercial speeding.
  • 36 were due to mechanical issues.
  • Other violations included cellphone use and seatbelt non-compliance.

Results: CHP impounded two vehicles and recovered both an occupied and unoccupied stolen vehicle. They arrested one person for DUI.

  • 69 commercial vehicles underwent inspections.
  • 13 drivers and 12 vehicles were declared out-of-service.
