A major cargo theft ring in Southern California was cracked open, leading to the arrest of four individuals connected to a series of vehicle and cargo thefts.
Arrests: Victor Alvarez, Brenda Alvarez, Mauricio Heriberto Gachicoa, and Otto Javier Rivas were arrested and charged with auto theft, cargo theft, and conspiracy. Each is being held on a $250,000 bond.
- The group allegedly targeted Camarillo from December 16, 2024, to January 5, 2025, stealing passenger cars to reach industrial areas and then grabbing semi-trucks loaded with goods.
- Stolen goods were transported to various locations across southern California and then to Tijuana, Mexico.
The loot: Officials recovered stolen merchandise valued at around $1.5 million, including products from well-known companies such as Amazon, Craftsman, and TJ Maxx, reported Ventura County Sheriff's Office.
- Search warrants uncovered stolen cargo at several storage sites, residences, and businesses.
- Narcotics, firearms, and a large sum of cash were also seized during the investigation.
Current Status: Luis Rivera, facing separate cargo theft charges, has an additional warrant for his arrest related to this string of thefts.
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities indicating that more arrests and charges could follow as they continue to dismantle this organized theft operation.
