Car driver’s reckless move causes hay spill in work zone

A hay truck lost part of its load after a car cut off the semi in a construction zone on I-86 near American Falls, Idaho. The incident happened just after 9:30 a.m. on July 16, 2025.

How it went down: The 46-year-old driver was hauling hay eastbound and slowing for construction when a car suddenly pulled in front of him. To avoid crashing, the trucker hit the brakes hard, which made several hay bales fall off into the lane.

  • No one was hurt in the incident.
  • The eastbound side of I-86 was blocked for about an hour and a half while crews cleared the hay bales.

Idaho State Police said the passenger car’s reckless move caused the load shift.

Cleanup wrapped up late that morning, and traffic returned to normal after the hay was removed.
