U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) made a major drug bust on February 4, 2025, at the Pharr International Bridge cargo facility in Texas.
The details: A semi truck carrying cucumbers and jalapenos from Mexico was stopped and searched.
- A canine unit and non-intrusive inspection equipment helped spot the illegal stash.
- The search led to the discovery of 26 packages of heroin and 8,206 packages of methamphetamine.
- The methamphetamine alone weighed over a ton, with an estimated street value of $19.8 million.
What they're saying: "This interception illustrates the important work CBP does to secure our border from harmful narcotics," stated Port Director Carlos Rodriguez from the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry.
The truck and narcotics were seized, and the case is now with Homeland Security Investigations.
Flashback: This isn't the first big catch at the bridge, as CBP officers are known for their vigilance in preventing drug smuggling attempts, as reported by CBP South Texas.
No injuries were reported, and the incident did not impact the regular flow of traffic at the cargo facility.
