Border agents find 761 pounds of liquid meth hidden in truck

U.S. Border Patrol agents seized 761 pounds of liquid meth hidden in a semi truck's fuel tanks on April 8, 2025. The truck was traveling north on I-215 in Murrieta, California.

What happened: Around 6:40 p.m., agents pulled over the truck, assisted by a K-9 unit. The dog alerted them to potential narcotics, prompting further investigation.

  • The search revealed "anomalies" in the fuel tanks, leading agents to discover an aftermarket compartment with liquid meth.
  • The truck was moved to a Border Patrol station for detailed examination.

The outcome: Homeland Security Investigations and hazmat teams helped remove and test the liquid, confirming it as meth. In all, 22 five-gallon buckets were retrieved.

  • The drugs, weighing in at 761 pounds, have an estimated street worth of $684,900.

The situation was the San Diego Sector's biggest meth seizure in the past two years. Prior to this, agents had seized 347 pounds of meth during the fiscal year 2025, reported U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

What's next: The driver now faces federal charges for possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance.
