Beckley Travel Plaza reopens with 35 new truck parking spots

The Beckley Travel Plaza along the West Virginia Turnpike is back in business after several months of renovations.

Driving the news: Governor Jim Justice officially announced the reopening of the popular travel plaza on December 30, 2024. The site was shuttered in early August for a series of upgrades.

  • Thirty-five additional truck parking spaces have been added, increasing the total to 165 spots.
  • New amenities include round-the-clock restaurants like Starbucks and Wendy’s, more restroom facilities, and EV charging stations.
  • The plaza now features separate fueling areas for vehicles and tractor-trailers, easing congestion and improving flow.

What's new: Beyond just trucker needs, the plaza also welcomes tourists with attractions like the Tamarack Artisan Shop, providing a broader appeal for all travelers.

The renovations were part of a hefty $152 million investment plan to revamp state travel facilities. These updates aim to enhance the experience for everyone traveling through the state, as explained in a state press release.

What's next: Another major facility, the Bluestone Travel Plaza, is expected to reopen by mid-January 2025, promising similar upgrades and expanding services.
