Averitt to end Mercedes-Benz contract, 200 jobs affected

Averitt, a trucking and logistics company, will end its nearly 30-year contract with the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance, Alabama at the end of 2025. This move impacts about 200 jobs, including truck drivers, administrative workers, and managers.

The details: The contract officially finishes on December 31. Both sides could not agree on new terms, so the long relationship is wrapping up, according to AL.com.

  • Averitt began supporting Mercedes-Benz in the area back in 1996.
  • The company says it will keep offering other trucking and logistics services in the Tuscaloosa region, where it’s been working for nearly 50 years.
  • Averitt is looking for ways to keep as many workers as possible by finding them other jobs within the company.
  • Some workers may also get financial help if they transfer to another Averitt position.

What they're saying: “While this chapter is ending, we are committed to supporting our team through this transition and helping them find new roles where they can continue to thrive within our organization,” said Dan Singer, Averitt's vice president of dedicated operations.

A spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz did not discuss details about the contract with Averitt.

Averitt plans to keep serving customers and grow its business in West Alabama despite this change.
