Canadian police have arrested Marius Ionescu, 36, in connection with a series of major cargo thefts from semi trucks in the Toronto area.
The details: The thefts took place in May and June 2024 in Mississauga and Oakville. The suspects targeted moving trucks, managing to steal goods worth a total of $2.2 million.
- On May 28, 2024, the suspects followed a Purolator trailer and breached it while it was moving. They stole $1.8 million worth of merchandise.
- On June 10, 2024, the suspects distracted the driver of another Purolator trailer and made away with $300,000 worth of electronics.
- On July 11, 2024, they attempted a similar theft with $1.2 million worth of cellular phones but failed as the truck driver kept moving.
- On June 28, 2024, they tried again and stole $120,000 worth of electronics. They threatened the driver, but no weapons were used.
What's next: With one suspect in custody, warrants have been issued for two others, Florian Porumbita, 29, and another Florian Porumbita, 27.
