Armed car driver causes I-45 semi crash and freeway chaos

On Thursday, June 26, a strange scene unfolded on I-45 North Freeway near Cypresswood Drive in Houston, Texas. A woman got out of her car with a gun after reportedly being in a crash with a semi truck. She then set up a foldable chair in the middle of the southbound lanes and refused to move.

What happened:

  • The crash involving the semi and the woman's car occurred around 1:29 p.m.
  • After the collision, the woman sat in the road with a firearm, not following commands from law enforcement.
  • She later started a standoff with deputies who tried to negotiate with her and even reached out to her family members for help.

How this affected traffic:

  • Authorities shut down both northbound and southbound lanes of I-45 in the area for safety.
  • Southbound drivers were re-routed at SH 99, and northbound vehicles had to exit at Cypresswood Drive, reported Click2Houston.
  • Major delays piled up as emergency crews managed the situation.

As of the last update, the standoff was still active and police continued to work on resolving the situation safely.
