Truck dangles off bridge as fire department saves driver

A truck driver was rescued from a harrowing situation on Friday after their vehicle crashed and was left hanging off the Clark Memorial Bridge above the Ohio River.

The rescue: The incident occurred around noon, with Louisville Fire Department swiftly responding to the scene and executing a dramatic rescue.

After the truck crossed into oncoming traffic and through the guardrail, the cab dangled precariously over the water.
Firefighter Bryce Carden was lowered to the truck to secure the driver, who was then lifted to safety.

The driver was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, reported FOX19.

Road closure: The bridge, connecting Indiana to Louisville, had to be closed, and officials anticipate it may remain shut down through rush hour into Saturday.

Next steps: Teams are working out a plan to remove the truck as inspections of the bridge's structural integrity are ongoing.

Sysco, the food distribution company operating the truck, expressed deep gratitude for the rescue services and is fully cooperating with the investigation.
