Truck driver arrested for intoxication manslaughter after deadly crash

A truck driver was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter after a deadly crash in Fort Worth, Texas.

What happened: Early Thursday at around 1:30 a.m., 24-year-old Guadalupe Velasquez Cruz was driving a semi-truck when he failed to stop in a construction zone. His truck collided with a vehicle stopped for construction on West Loop 820 at White Settlement Road.

  • The woman driving the car was killed, and her 41-year-old passenger was seriously injured.
  • A third car was also struck in the chain reaction, but no one inside was hurt.

The arrest: Officers on the scene suspected Cruz was intoxicated. After field sobriety tests and a blood sample confirmed he was drunk, Cruz was taken into custody and charged with intoxication manslaughter.

"Traffic was stopped. The semi-truck did not stop and collided with the vehicle directly in front of it," explained Fort Worth Police Officer Brad Perez.

Looking ahead: The investigation is ongoing as authorities look for more answers. Velasquez Cruz faces serious charges for his actions, reported Fox 4 News, and the trucking community awaits updates on the case.
