Truck driver Michael Dorsey found himself amidst a dire situation during flooding in Erwin, Tennessee caused by Hurricane Helene on September 27.
The scene: As the Nolichucky River started rising, Dorsey spotted 10 people trapped by the water in the parking lot.
- Dorsey, from Humble, Texas, directed the group onto his flatbed trailer, providing temporary refuge from the flood.
What went down: Debris from the river eventually overturned the truck, throwing five individuals into the water.
- Tragically, two people were found dead, and three remain missing.
- The other five managed to survive by clinging onto the piping on the flatbed.
His account: Dorsey, deeply affected by the events, said, "I mean, I don’t look at it like I’m no type of hero or nothing, just that God put me in the right place at the right time."
Despite the ordeal, Dorsey has returned to Texas, seeking work while waiting for insurance reimbursement for his destroyed truck. reported Knox News.
His actions saved lives, but the memories of those lost or missing continue to haunt him.
