South Dakota Hosts Trucker Appreciation Event with Free Food

Trucker appreciation took center stage on Wednesday at the freshly opened Tilford Port of Entry near Rapid City, South Dakota.

Why it matters: The South Dakota Highway Patrol organized the event to honor truckers while showcasing their new inspection facility.

The event: Officers served burgers, hot dogs, and sides to passing truckers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Truckers also received free pens and tote bags as small tokens of appreciation.

  • The new facility features an indoor inspection bay, allowing year-round inspections regardless of the weather.
  • An indoor area for truckers keeps them sheltered while they await inspections, a big improvement especially during windy days.

"The big difference is this bay behind us. Now we can do inspections all year-round," said inspector Brian Stenbeck.

The event provided a glimpse into the advanced technology and improved amenities that aim to streamline the inspection process.

Dozens of truckers from across the country attended, enjoying food and the improved facilities reported KOTA TV News.
