Truckers got a special treat on September 18 at the new Tilford Port of Entry near Rapid City, South Dakota. The South Dakota Highway Patrol hosted a trucker appreciation event to mark the opening of their inspection facility.
The event: Officers grilled burgers and hot dogs for truckers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The new facility includes a partially indoor inspection bay and an indoor waiting area, shielding truckers and inspectors from harsh weather.
Why it matters: This new setup allows year-round inspections regardless of weather conditions. "We don’t have to worry about the weather or the snow out here in the parking lot," explained Brian Stenbeck, an inspector at the port of entry.
- Truckers received not just food but also tours of the new facility and were given freebies like pens and tote bags.
The new facility aims to streamline inspections and improve conditions for both drivers and officers. Over a dozen truckers attended, enjoying the food and amenities, reported KOTA TV.
Thankfully, the event was a great success, and the new facility is now fully operational for all inspections.
