Snow and ice jam I-71, truckers face long delays

Truckers faced a challenging situation on I-71 near the Brent Spence Bridge on January 5th, when a cluster of semis got stuck in snow and ice for nearly seven hours.

What happened: Just after 3:15 p.m., the incident began on Fort Washington Way, Cincinnati. It caused significant delays as the trucks blocked the on-ramp.

  • ODOT promptly dispatched two plow crews at 8:30 p.m. to clear the ramp.
  • The route partially reopened after a single semi was removed by 10 p.m.

No injuries were reported, but traffic was severely backed up to the Gilbert Avenue exit, according to WCPO 9 News.

Why it matters: The incident stands as a reminder of how quickly snowy conditions can create disruptions, emphasizing the role of truckers and road crews in navigating these challenges.

Thankfully, after hours of hard work, the road was cleared, allowing for traffic to resume smoothly.
