Semi-truck and pickup truck collide, dramatic rescue follows

A semi-truck accident on the 710 Freeway in Long Beach, California, resulted in a dramatic rescue on January 2nd.

The scene: Just after 1:50 p.m., a semi-truck tipped over and landed on a Chevrolet pickup truck, trapping two people inside.

  • The Long Beach Fire Department quickly arrived and freed one person, while a heavy wrecker assisted in freeing the other.
  • Rescuers used the Jaws of Life to cut into the pickup and complete the rescue in about an hour and a half.

What happened: The collision occurred when one vehicle changed lanes, although the full details are still under investigation, reported Long Beach Post News.

Road impact: The crash blocked all lanes of the northbound freeway for approximately 30 minutes, with the highway reopening fully by 6 p.m. the same day.

The driver and passenger of the pickup suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
