Texas state troopers carried out a comprehensive check of commercial vehicles throughout 2024 and found nearly half in the Permian Basin needed to be taken off the roads for safety reasons.
The numbers: Texas Department of Public Safety reported inspecting 8,329 trucks in the Midland region.
- Of those, about 4,000 vehicles were deemed unsafe for travel, meaning 48% were pulled from service.
- Additionally, 1,419 drivers were found unfit to continue their journeys, making up 17% of the inspections.
- Overall, 50,931 violations were recorded, a vast number involving equipment issues.
Behind the stats: The aim of these inspections is to ensure that only safe drivers and vehicles are on the road, reducing the risk of crashes and improving weight compliance.
Thankfully, these checks help avoid incidents before they happen, showing the importance of keeping equipment and paperwork in shape.
